If you have a problem wound:

If your wound(s) appeared less than 90 days ago:

There are a lot of excellent wound clinics around Australia that can in most cases heal your wound(s) with standard wound care. Attending a wound clinic is a great first step toward healing. If you contact us or speak with your GP, we can direct you to one of these clinics.

Standard wound care is not always successful though. If 90 days have passed since the wound(s) first appeared and the wound(s) is still not healing, then you should contact us. Our doctors and nurses will assess your situation and advise if our treatment is appropriate for you. The treatment we use heals 75% of wounds that were not successfully healed through standard wound care alone. We also can work with your current health care professional so they are aware of your progress throughout treatment.

If your wound(s) appeared more than 90 days ago:

A lot of people with a chronic wound(s) are of the belief their wound(s) will not heal and have learnt to live with their wound(s). Wounds can significantly impact on your quality of life. The wound(s) require continuous care, can smell, can exudate (seep liquid), can be painful and can lead to infection and complications arising from infection (sometimes including gangrene and amputation).

Even if you previously sought standard wound care treatment or are currently seeking standard wound care treatment, if your wound appeared more than 90 days ago you should contact Wound Hospitals. Our nurses and doctors can assess your situation and advise if our treatment is appropriate for you. We also can work with your current health care professional so they are aware of your progress throughout treatment.

If you’ve learnt to live with a wound that won’t go away, Wound Hospitals could potentially change your life by healing your wound(s). Our objective is ultimately to get you back on your feet and enjoying life.

About Treatment:

If you have a wound that appeared more than 90 days ago, insufficient oxygen (underlying hypoxia) may be the reason the wound is not healing. If you have hypoxia, your body is not sufficiently supplying enough oxygenated blood to the area of the wound. Despite the best standard wound care in the world, a wound cannot heal without adequate blood supply, as it is not receiving required oxygen and nutrients to facilitate healing.

The majority of wounds we treat occur on people’s legs, feet and toes. In these areas, there often are not enough small blood vessels around the wound (micro vascular insufficiency). Wounds cannot heal until there are enough small blood vessels delivering oxygen and nutrients to the wound.

The first thing that must be achieved before you can expect a non-healing wound to heal is to deliver oxygenated blood to the wound area, which is why we offer hyperbaric treatment and adjunctive wound care to treat your wound(s). Hyperbaric treatment is able to heal wounds people have lived with for years by helping the body to grow new small blood vessels (micro vascular systems). The only way to grow new small blood vessels (neoangiogenesis) is to undergo hyperbaric treatment where you breathe pure oxygen in a hyperbaric unit.

These new blood vessels allow oxygenated and nutrient rich blood to reach the wound so the wound can start healing. By providing standard wound care alongside hyperbaric treatment, we can create an ideal environment for your wound(s) to heal. The wounds we heal generally do not come back as the body’s new small blood vessels are generally able to adequately sustain the tissue around the wound.

Hyperbaric treatment is painless and fixes the main reason why wounds do not heal by addressing underlying the lack of small blood vessels (micro vascular insufficiency).

Moving Forward:

Despite where you are on your wound healing journey, it is worth contacting Wound Hospitals to discuss you situation so we can help you create an appropriate treatment plan. If you have a wound(s) that that is not healing, we may be able to assist you to better health.

Some health funds will cover cost of treatment; this is done on a case by case basis. Please contact us to see if this is something your health fund will cover. Treatments are provided in our licensed and fully accredited private hospitals.

In many cases we can assist with organising patient transport to and from our hospitals.
We also have a range of subsidised possibilities open to patients who qualify for accommodation support because they live a significant distance away from our hospitals. We help patients from intrastate, interstate and overseas who require accommodation during the course of their treatment. Please ask us about these options if you believe they may be relevant to you.

You do not necessarily have to accept that wound as a continuing part of your life. We don’t accept it. Let’s work together to heal your wound(s).

To initiate a conversation about healing your wound(s), you can call us on 13 96 86 (13 WOUND), start a live chat with us online or visit one of our hospitals.
